Brian Kelly’s leadership journey began humbly, as a linebacker on the club football team at Assumption College. After earning his degree, Kelly immediately transitioned into coaching, quickly rising from assistant to head coach and never looking back. Over four decades, he’s helmed programs at Grand Valley State, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and now LSU—earning widespread respect for his results and consistency.
Coach Kelly’s teams have been a fixture at the top of college football. At Grand Valley State, he led the program to consecutive NCAA Division II Football Championships in 2002 and 2003 and was named Division II Coach of the Year twice. He continued his rise through Central Michigan and Cincinnati—where he won three Big East titles and three Big East Coach of the Year awards—before taking the reins at Notre Dame in 2010.
During his 11-year tenure with the Fighting Irish, Brian became the most successful coach in school history, posting a 92–39 record, leading the team to the 2013 BCS National Championship Game and two College Football Playoff appearances. He was named Home Depot Coach of the Year three times and earned Coach of the Year honors from the AP, Walter Camp Foundation, and the ACC.
In 2022, Kelly embraced a new challenge at LSU. In his inaugural season, he guided the Tigers to an SEC West title and a Citrus Bowl victory, quickly re-establishing LSU as a powerhouse. His coaching prowess continued in 2023 and 2024, leading the Tigers to winning seasons that culminated in ReliaQuest Bowl and Texas Bowl victories.
