After graduating cum laude from the University of Alabama in 1988 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Broadcast News and Public Affairs, Rece Davis began working as a news anchor and sports reporter for local television stations in Georgia and Michigan. He garnered the attention of larger programs and by 1995 he began working for ESPN. Initially, Rece worked on multiple shows for ESPN2 including SportSmash and NBA 2Night before becoming a mainstay on SportsCenter and other ESPN programs.
In 2005, he was chosen as the host of ESPN’s College GameDay for basketball, a role he still holds today. He has also served as anchor for the NCAA Men’s Final Four and host of the NBA Draft on ESPN for over a decade.
Additionally, From 2006 to 2009, he was one of the hosts for ABC’s coverage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the lead host of the UEFA Euro 2008 and 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup. Recently, he returned to soccer as the host of UEFA Euro 2020 on ESPN/ABC.
Then in 2015, Rece was chosen as the successor to Chris Fowler’s role as host of ESPN’s College GameDay for football. In addition, he hosts ESPN’s College Football Playoff National Championship and ABC’s NFL Draft coverage. In his first three seasons with football’s College GameDay Rece continued the program’s streak of earning a Sports Emmy for best weekly studio show. The show’s Sports Emmys in 2018, 2017 & 2016 added to the previous five trophies they earned in 2015, 2014, 2011, 2010 & 2008.
On top of the show’s success, Rece was also nominated for Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Host in 2018 and 2019. His accolades include the Lester Jordan Award (2019) and Jake Wade Award (2016), both given by the College Sports Information Directors of America for outstanding contributions to intercollegiate athletics, and Cablefax’s Best Sports Host (2008). Moreover, in 2019 Rece was inducted into the University of Alabama College of Communication and Information Sciences Hall of Fame.
