Career in Digital Media

Rachel began her career after earning a B.A. in Entertainment Business and New Media from New York University. She has held positions as a strategist at the digital strategy firm Undercurrent, Digital Marketing Consultant/Reverse Mentor at Time Warner Inc., and Global Director of Digital and Social Media at Gap Inc. She also is an angel investor and adviser to early-stage ad-tech and consumer-goods start-ups.

At Undercurrent, Rachel worked with marketers such as PepsiCo, Levi’s, and Disney, informing their strategic marketing decisions. Then, as a “reverse mentor” at Time Warner, she taught senior executives the ins and outs of social media. Finally, she was hired by Gap where she oversaw the strategy, implementation, and measurement of digital and social media.

Turnaround at Gap Inc.

When Rachel arrived at Gap, the company had a decade of declining sales and an aging customer base. At the start of her tenure, the average age of Gap’s customers was 47 years old. When Rachel left, that average was a decade lower. At the heart of Rachel’s success was innovation. For example, under her guidance, Gap became the first advertiser to purchase all mobile ads on Tumblr for 24 hours as part of its “Back to Blue” campaign.
