Biography
Magic Meets Technology
Digital Deception is an interactive show that seamlessly merges stunning magic with the technology, platforms, and gadgets we know and use every day; mobile phones, social media, GPS, text messaging, and even drones. This combination creates a unique stage presentation that forces audiences to re-examine what’s possible in today’s modern world. The show is a collaboration between two of the country’s most exciting magic practitioners: Doug McKenzie and Ryan Oakes.
Who is Doug McKenzie?
Doug McKenzie is a magician and mentalist whose internationally acclaimed performances have garnered him a reputation as one of the most innovative names in magic. Doug has been profiled on CNN Tech, performed for royalty, and created original magic for countless televised specials.
Born in Scotland, Doug grew up in The Sultanate of Oman, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. He is fluent in English, German, and conversational Arabic. He also holds a B.S. in finance and international business from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and lectures at both New York University and Princeton University.
Doug has performed in over two dozen countries, both for notable businesses and celebrities, including: Google, Hermés, NBC, American Express, GE, Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Paul Newman, and Sting. He is also a favorite amongst royal families in the Middle East.
In addition to his interactive live performances, Doug is recognized by his fellow magicians as a premier creator of magic effects. As an integral member of David Blaine’s team, Doug consulted on and produced David’s prime-time ABC specials for more than a decade. Doug also developed the magic for the BAFTA-nominated U.K. television series Dynamo: Magician Impossible, which subsequently aired in more than 150 countries.
Who is Ryan Oakes?
A decorated veteran in the field of magic, Ryan Oakes has performed his unique brand of illusion all over the US for almost 20 years. A magician and mentalist, Ryan Oakes is one of the country’s most sought-after corporate entertainers – he averages over 100 shows per year.
It all started in 1990, when he became the youngest person ever to win the Society of American Magicians’ National Magic Competition, one of the highest honors in magic. Since then, Ryan has performed at The White House and in almost every US state. He has been profiled in Forbes magazine and The New York Times, and written up in Entertainment Weekly, Star Magazine, The New York Post, and Variety.
He’s also been a guest on The View, HARRY, Inside Edition, and Montel, and appeared on CNN, The Discovery Channel, ESPN, and The Disney Channel. Ryan primarily performs at corporate functions and maintains an impressive list of Fortune 500 clients. While most of his work is concentrated in the US, Ryan also travels internationally for events and has performed for US troops in Cuba, Japan, Italy, Spain, Greece, and Guam.
Additionally, Ryan co-starred in The Real Hustle, a television series that aired primetime on the truTV network in 2008. The show demonstrated how con artists use psychology, sleight-of-hand, and technology to swindle innocent marks. Often, Ryan works as a magic consultant, where he leverages his magic knowledge to achieve client goals in projects ranging from product launches to corporate sales presentations. Ryan has created custom solutions for clients ranging from Hermes of Paris to Las Vegas legends Seigfried & Roy.
