A Shifting Life

At three years old, Anthony was placed into the foster care system. Up to 50% of kids placed in the system end up homeless upon emancipation. Additionally, 75% of prison inmates in the U.S. are former foster kids. In short, the odds weren’t in Anthony’s favor.

Somewhere between being placed in foster care and being adopted by a poor, all-white family at the age of 14, Anthony began to apply himself. In high school, he gave himself the most challenging and lofty goal yet – making the varsity football team. While his first couple of seasons were difficult, he persevered, worked hard, and made the team. By his senior year, received a full-ride scholarship to the University of Oregon. After college, he achieved his ultimate goal of going pro in the NFL. At 25, he was a Pittsburgh Steeler, married with a son, and had a bright future ahead.

Trials & Tribulations

However, a fluke shoulder injury sent Anthony’s NFL dreams crashing down. Within two months, he went from an NFL roster to a personal trainer at his local gym. To get his life together, Anthony knew he had to shift and he had to shift quickly.

With a degree in kinesiology, Anthony decided to open his own gym. The gym ate up all of his time which left his marriage falling apart and his children missing him. Eventually, the business tanked and he almost went bankrupt. Feeling broken and alone, Anthony took a long drive intending to take his life.

Fortunately, he didn’t. When he returned to work, Richie, a trainer at his gym, told Anthony that he almost lost a hero. Richie cited that everyone knew how much Anthony had overcome in his life. Before, Anthony’s only focus was financial success to provide for his family. But this conversation sparked a thought, “What if I could be an inspiration for others?”

Finding Purpose

Anthony researched other peak performance coaches and mimicked their approach. But he still struggled and found himself constantly asking, “Why not me?”

At that moment, he realized that what was missing was within himself.

Anthony realized success only happens when who you are to your core, your identity, aligns with your life’s vision. Quickly, he began taking steps to reprogram himself. He researched, practiced, and rewired his brain “on a deep psychological level” until he became the person he wanted to be.

“Shifting into my ideal identity is the only way that I’ve been able to achieve success in my career. It is also the reason why I was able to bounce back in my personal life, repair my marriage and be the father that I always wanted to be for my children. I became a speaker and a best-selling author, to give back to those, successful or not, feeling stuck, uninspired and hopeless because while I’m beyond grateful for my journey, I wished I had someone to teach me all that I know now. Throughout my transformation and beyond, doors have opened to me that I never knew existed. I’ve been able to make meaningful and rewarding connections with people that will last a lifetime, grow and sustain my business, all the while bettering myself as an individual. I essentially achieved balance.”
