Biography

Wine Library

Gary Vaynerchuk and his family immigrated to the US from Belarus in 1978. At fourteen, he joined his family business bagging ice for $2/hr. But when Gary identified the internet as a massive opportunity in the late 90s, he transitioned his father’s local liquor store, Shoppers Discount Liquors, into one of the first e-commerce platforms for alcohol in the country. Renaming the business to Wine Library, Gary grew his father’s company to $60 million in annual sales during his tenure.

While at Wine Library, Gary started WineLibraryTV in 2006, one of YouTube’s first long-form episodic video shows. He produced an episode almost every day for five years. His uncanny ability to engage with his community landed him appearances on national television with Ellen Degeneres and Conan O’Brien.

“Gary Vee”

After growing his family business through what Gary calls “underpriced attention,” which includes content, e-commerce, email marketing, and Google AdWords, Gary began his journey of producing original business content as one of the internet’s first voices of entrepreneurship.

In 2008, Gary gave a keynote at Web 2.0 in New York City that would ultimately change his career. That speech was the backbone of Gary’s $1 million, ten-book deal with HarperCollins and led to the publishing of his first book, Crush It!, in 2009. Crush It! then went on to become an international bestseller, laying the foundation for Gary’s principles on media, marketing, and communication. During this time, he began angel investing in notable companies including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Uber, Snapchat, and Venmo.

VaynerMedia

Replicating what he had done for WineLibrary for other businesses and brands, Gary then co-founded VaynerMedia in 2009 with his younger brother AJ. After starting the business in a conference room, Gary built the company to more than 800 employees in just nine years without raising any startup funding. Now, VaynerMedia services clients such as PepsiCo, GE, Johnson and Johnson, Chase, AbInBev, and more.

Other Ventures

Gary also co-founded Resy and Empathy Wines, which he later sold to American Express and Constellation Brands respectively. Additionally, he is the founder and creator of VeeCon – a contemporary super-conference that converges business and pop culture with innovation and technology. Currently, Gary serves on the board of MikMak, Bojangles Restaurants, and Pencils of Promise as well.

Media

While scaling his businesses, Gary continued to behave as a media company on his own. Gary launched #AskGaryVee, an online business and advice Q&A show which later led him to launch DailyVee, a vlog documenting his life as a CEO. His social media channels have more than 44 million followers and garner over 300 million monthly impressions/views across all platforms. Further, his podcast, The GaryVee Audio Experience, ranks among the top podcasts globally. He has also written four more New York Times bestselling business books and become one of the most sought-after public speakers. Organizations frequently hire Gary Vaynerchuk for keynotes at conferences such as Le Web, ANA Masters of Marketing, Web Summit, and more.

Books

Gary is the author of The New York Times bestsellers: Crush It!The Thank You EconomyJab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook#AskGaryVee; and Crushing It!

This year, Gary will unveil his newest book: Day-Trading Attention. In this latest work, he provides fresh insights into navigating the modern social media landscape. Gary’s expertise guides readers on harnessing underpriced attention channels in the digital age. He emphasizes mastering storytelling in these arenas and highlights the “TikTokification of Social Media,” where content relevance surpasses follower counts.
