By age 17, Bonnie Hancock had already become a professional IronWoman. Today, she has competed in 9 Nutri-Grain IronWoman Series and represented Australia in surf lifesaving.
In 2020 Bonnie read a book about a previous circumnavigation of Australia by paddle. By 2022 she completed a grueling 12,700-kilometer journey around Australia in a surf ski. Along the way, Bonnie dealt with treacherous conditions as she paddled past uninhabited coastline and confronted the most remote parts of Australia. She was followed by crocodiles, faced sharks, and dealt with hypothermia, nausea, and sea sickness. If that wasn’t enough, she also had to overcome logistical challenges and changes in her support crew. Despite that, she completed her journey and became the fastest paddler to ever circumnavigate the continent, the first Australian woman to circumnavigate the continent by paddle, and the youngest person to do so.
Along with those records, she also holds the world record for the longest 24-hour paddle, covering a distance of 235 kilometers. In those 24 hours, Bonnie only took 2 15-minute breaks.
Additionally, Bonnie is an ambassador for Gotcha4Life and a speaker on leadership and mental health. In Bonnie’s words “being fit and healthy not only means physically, but mentally too. In a year where the importance of mental health has never been so critical, I want to do my part in raising awareness and vital funds for Gotcha4Life, an Australian not-for-profit foundation that delivers mental fitness programs that engage, educate, and empower local communities.”
As an athlete and speaker, Bonnie aims to provide thought-provoking and relatable experiences for audiences. As a dynamic and adaptable speaker, Bonnie has graced the stage at local community events, national conferences, and international forums. With her inspiring stories of triumph and leadership, Bonnie captivates the crowd, sharing relevant themes like resilience, teamwork, adapting to change, breaking gender stereotypes, and thriving outside your comfort zone.

It took an ocean to learn it's not how fast you paddle but how deep inside you dig. 254 days, 12,700 kilometres, sea sickness, sharks, crocodiles and ocean. Bonnie Hancock broke numerous records on her fastest ever circumnavigation by paddle around Australia but that wasn't the achievement she is most proud of. Testing the limits of her mental and physical toughness, she learned what it means to overcome adversity and how important teamwork and perspective truly are. What looks distressing from the rocky shore or storm-tossed waves can be inspiring when you look to the heavens.
The Girl Who Touched the Stars is a love story, a travelogue and an exhilarating exploration of human ambition coming face to face with the beauty and power of nature. But most of all it's a lesson in overcoming self-doubt, trusting others and finding your true self. Bonnie demonstrates vividly and honestly the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of reaching for the stars
