We created a culture where people were encouraged to debate
ideas and to really, really struggle with ideas till they would
come up with the right answers.
Trying to give people a toolkit to become problem
solvers.
A very core tenet that informs all of the rest of the work we do, which is
about challenging false compromises.
Instead of thinking with or, I have to do this or do that.
The key to thinking with and is being able to isolate
those assumptions that are holding you back and saying,
“Why is this true?” Or, “Why not do it differently?”
A lot of people will confuse kindness with weakness and
softness because they confuse it with being nice, but they couldn’t be more
different. You can be nice and not have strength.
You can just be passive and be nice and polite, but to be
kind, you need the strength of action. You need the strength of honesty.
For us, the kind and hungry values, kind is about how we do
things with a team spirit, team orientation.
And then the hungry aspect is accountability,
hungry hunting, sniffing out the opportunities.
As we did the research, the three
buckets of skills we need to develop are the three Cs,
curiosity, compassion, and courage.
Once we’re able to unlock this insight, we can expand our
horizons and replace eternal conflict with practical
problem-solving.
