Born with Spastic Diplegia

When Nicolas was only 18 months old, his parents were given grave news. He would never walk. His eyesight was extremely poor and would deteriorate further as he got older.

Nic tirelessly worked to overcome his cerebral palsy and by the age of 17, went from wheelchair-bound to walking unaided.

Professional Motorsport Driver

While his parents were ecstatic, they quickly found out Nicolas was determined to do more than just walk. The same determination he used to get out of his wheelchair, he used to convince his parents to let him race. In 2011, he was given the opportunity to race in the highly competitive Renault Clio Cup series.

This would be his first attempt at motorsport with no previous experience. However, Nic’s determination continued to prevail. He proved himself against a field of able-bodied drivers and showed the world of motorsport that through hard work a disabled driver can be just as competitive in an able-bodied sport.

British Touring Car Championship

Then in 2015, Nicolas made history by becoming the first disabled athlete to compete in the British Touring Car Championship. In February 2020, during Round 2 of the Championship at Brands Hatch, Nicolas scored his first BTCC points finish. Then in 2023, Nicolas scored a career-best P6 finish in Round 1 of the Championship at Donington Park, smashing his personal record and further raising the bar for disabled athletes in the top-flight of British motorsport. Nicolas still competes in the BTCC today, racing for Team HARD.
