An Achievement-Filled Football Career
Raised in Hampton, Virginia, Jerod Mayo grew up with a tenacious work ethic and relentless drive. That energy made him a standout at the University of Tennessee, where he captained the defense and earned first-team All-SEC honors while posting 140 tackles in a single season—still one of the highest totals in school history.
He was selected 10th overall in the 2008 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, where he immediately made an impact. Mayo was named AP Defensive Rookie of the Year, went on to earn two Pro Bowl selections, and was named a First-Team All-Pro after leading the NFL in tackles in 2010. Four years later, he won football’s ultimate prize when the Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX.
Barrier-Breaking Head Coach
After retiring in 2016, Mayo returned to the Patriots as the inside linebackers coach in 2019. In 2024, he made history by becoming the franchise’s first Black head coach. Though his head coaching tenure was short-lived, it marked a historic milestone and provided Mayo with invaluable leadership experience at the highest level of the game.
Mayo’s reputation for commanding respect, fostering accountability, and pushing for excellence—both on and off the field—make him a compelling speaker for teams and organizations looking to level up their culture and performance.
