Biography

After an impressive career at UCLA, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Freddie Mitchell with the 25th pick of the 2001 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the Eagles, culminating in an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX.

4th & 26

Mitchell is famous for his part in the “4th and 26” play against the Green Bay Packers in the 2003-04 NFC Divisional Playoff Game. With the Eagles down by 3 points and only 1:12 remaining, Mitchell made the biggest play of his career. Before the drive, he noticed that the “defensive coordinator was going into a prevent defense and leaving holes.” In turn, he relayed the information to coach Andy Reid. Then during the drive, Mitchell told wide receivers coach David Culley: “This is what you need to run, and it’s wide open. Just let me find the hole.” Mitchell exploited the defense and caught a 28-yard pass from Donovan McNabb to help lead the team to a win in overtime.

Today, organizations hire Freddie Mitchell for keynotes, fireside chats, and value-added appearances. He is still beloved by Eagles fans everywhere.
