Biography

From Leadership Development to the TEDx Stage

During his undergraduate years, Drew Dudley realized he was more interested in engaging with the world than simply writing about it. While still a student, he became deeply involved with Canada’s largest post-secondary charitable initiative supporting Cystic Fibrosis Canada, eventually serving as National Chair of the organization.

He later took on the challenge of creating and building the Leadership Development Program at the University of Toronto, growing it into the largest and most dynamic program of its kind in the country. The students in that program would ultimately change the course of his career when they organized a campaign to put him onstage at TEDxToronto 2010. His talk went on to generate more than 8 million views online.

Leadership, Mental Health, and the Day One Process

As Drew Dudley’s speaking career accelerated, the demands of constant travel and a high-achieving lifestyle began taking a personal toll. Undiagnosed bipolar disorder contributed to struggles with binge eating, drinking, and emotional health while he spent much of the year on the road.

Drew Dudley credits the Day One process with helping him rebuild his mental and physical health. Recognizing how many people were facing similar struggles in silence, he began incorporating those experiences into his keynote presentations, reminding audiences that personal challenges do not disqualify people from leadership.

In 2018, Drew Dudley shared his story and leadership framework in his first book, This is Day One: A Practical Guide to Leadership That Matters. Today, he continues to speak with organizations around the world, helping audiences rethink leadership through the lens of resilience, growth, and human connection.

Drew blew us away …

There was not a dry eye in the place. When he sat down the audience stood up and would probably still be applauding if he hadn’t said it was getting embarrassing.

One of our core values at the Chamber is “Be A Trailblazer.”

Drew’s presentation fully embodied this value. High level executives to mom-and-pop shop stores have approached us to say how much his message meant to them. Even a former board member who we all admire said that she really needed that perspective shift that Drew supplied.

— Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce

I’ve been in the events business for 15 years and Drew is one of my all-time favorite guest speakers.

If you like seeing head-nods, laughter, tears and the inevitable standing ovation from your group, then Drew is your guy! No speaker has been easier to work with or cares more about the audience. A master storyteller, his content is powerful and super easy to implement into your personal and professional life.
