Biography

World Series MVP

In 2002, Cole Hamels was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the first round of the MLB Draft. After 4 years in the Phillies farm system, Cole made his major league debut and immediately made an impact. In his rookie season, he finished with a 9-8 record and a solid 4.08 ERA. The following year, in 2007, Cole emerged as a dominant force on the mound. He finished the season with a 15-5 record and a stellar 3.39 ERA. His season earned him his first All-Star selection and solidified his status as one of the top pitchers in the league.

Then, his best season came in 2008. During that season, he played a key role in the Phillies first World Series victory since 1980. In the postseason, Cole had a 4-0 record with a 1.80 ERA. On top of the championship, he was named World Series MVP further cementing his place among the game’s elite.

The following year, the Phillies came up just short, losing in the World Series to the New York Yankees. But Cole was consistent in his performance. In 2011 and 2012, Cole would earn his 2nd and 3rd All-Star appearances.

No-Hitter & A Historic Trade

Over the next 3 seasons, the Phillies’ play declined. Although Cole was pitching well, the Phillies’ poor batting and fielding left the team looking to rebuild. On July 25, 2015, in what would be his final start for the Phillies before being traded, he no-hit the Chicago Cubs 5–0 at Wrigley Field with 13 strikeouts and only 2 walks. However, six days later, he was traded to the Texas Rangers. He became the first pitcher to be traded during the regular season after pitching a no-hitter in his final start. Nonetheless, the trade marked a new chapter in his career and an opportunity to prove himself once again.

Texas Success

In his first full season with the Rangers, Cole posted a 15-5 record with a 3.32 ERA. He recorded over 200 strikeouts for the 5th time in his career, earned his 4th All-Star, and solidified himself as an ace in the Rangers’ rotation. His success continued in subsequent seasons, as he consistently delivered strong performances and helped lead the Rangers to playoff contention. Although the Rangers fell short of World Series titles in 2015 and 2016, Cole’s playoff performances solidified his reputation as a clutch pitcher.

Keynote Speaking

After his time in Texas, Cole played for the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres before announcing his retirement in 2023. After 17 years in the MLB, he decided it was time to move on to the next chapter of his life – keynote speaking. As a World Series champion, World Series MVP, and 4-time All-Star, Cole knows what makes great teams succeed. Along with his success, he has faced many trials and tribulations in his career. These ups and downs lend well to keynotes on overcoming adversity and staying motivated. Organizations hire Cole Hamels not only for his impact on the game of baseball, but the takeaways he’s fostered from his career. If you’re looking for an impactful sports keynote, book Cole Hamels.
