ʻEwa Beach to Alabama
Born in ʻEwa Beach, Hawaii, Tuanigamanuolepola Tagovailoa always stood out. As a child, he would sleep with a football tucked under his arm and began launching 30-yard passes before most kids could throw for 10 yards. Inspired by his grandfather Chief Seu Tagovailoa’s belief in him and mentored by fellow Saint Louis School alum Marcus Mariota, Tua became a top-ranked quarterback recruit and ultimately committed to the University of Alabama.
Crimson Tide Legend
Tua’s legend began in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship when he came off the bench as a true freshman and led Alabama to a thrilling overtime victory with a walk-off 41-yard touchdown pass. He went on to break records, win the Maxwell and Walter Camp awards, and finish second in Heisman voting in his sophomore season. Despite a serious hip injury during his junior year, he entered the NFL Draft as one of the most decorated and respected quarterbacks in college football history.
Miami Dolphins Franchise Quarterback
Selected 5th overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tua has consistently defied expectations. In 2022, he led the NFL in passer rating; in 2023, he led the league in passing yards and earned his first Pro Bowl selection. He currently ranks second all-time in completion percentage with at least 1,500 pass attempts and is ninth in the NFL’s all-time regular season career passer rating. Under head coach Mike McDaniel, Tua has flourished in an offense built around his elite processing speed and pinpoint accuracy—solidifying his role as the Dolphins’ franchise quarterback.
Fresh Start with the Falcons
After leaving the Dolphins at the end of the 2025-2026 season Tua landed with the Atlanta Falcons to compete for a starting job and mentor second year player Michael Penix Jr.
Off the Field: A Life of Purpose
Beyond football, Tua is a devoted husband and father, who places his family and faith above all else. Known for his humility and love of Polynesian culture, he often celebrates major milestones with traditional Samoan customs. In 2021, he founded the Tua Foundation, supporting youth initiatives and wellness programs across Hawaii, Alabama, and Miami. He also established a $300,000 scholarship endowment at his high school alma mater and has raised tens of thousands for Big Brothers Big Sisters through his “Luau for Tua” charity event.
Tua enjoys playing the ukulele and guitar, cooking with family, and has a deep appreciation for tattoos that reflect his cultural identity—including a full Samoan sleeve symbolizing protection and guidance. While he’s known for electrifying Sundays, those closest to him know him as a grounded, faithful man who never forgets where he came from.
