Biography

Mickey Morandini began his baseball career with a roaring start. While attending Indiana University, he won the Cape Cod Baseball League batting title. Later on, in 2005, he was named to the CCBL hall of fame.

However, Morandini decided to not enter the 1987 Major League Baseball draft. He had his sights set on the United States national team for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Following an appearance in the Olympics, he finished his senior season at Indiana University. He would then earn the honor of second-team All-American for that season.

Mickey Morandini’s MLB Career

After graduating with several Indiana University records, the Philadelphia Phillies selected Morandini in the fifth round of the 1988 MLB draft.

The Phillies assigned Morandini to the Spartanburg Phillies, beginning his phase of using the minor leagues as a proving ground.

Mickey Morandini’s career with the Philadelphia Phillies opened with a stunning unassisted triple play in 1992 while playing against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ever since then, Morandini has been remembered as one of the greatest Philies of all time.

Appearing in the 1993 World Series, the 1995 MLB all-star team, and closing out his career with the Chicago Cubs, Morandini led an accomplished professional baseball career.

Following his playing career, Morandini would become the Philadelphia Phillies first base coach in 2015. Eventually, after two years as coach, he would be promoted their club ambassador. Today, organizations hire Mickey Morandini for guest appearances and motivational speeches.
