In his first three seasons, he posted a 39–10 record—better than Packers legends Vince Lombardi and Curly Lambeau—leading the Packers to three consecutive 13-win seasons, two NFC Championship appearances, and the highest winning percentage by any coach over their first three years.

But Matt’s success goes far beyond the stat sheet. Known within the organization as “the glue of the Packers,” his leadership style emphasizes loyalty, preparation, and accountability. His now-famous three rules—Team First, No Excuses, Be on Time and Be Prepared—have become a mantra in Green Bay, offering a timeless model for high-functioning teams in any industry.

A Coach with a Player’s Perspective

Coach LaFleur’s ability to connect with players is rooted in his own time on the field. A former quarterback and wide receiver, he played at Western Michigan before transferring to Saginaw Valley State, where he led the team to three consecutive playoff appearances and graduated as the school’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns. In 2021, he was inducted into the SVSU Athletic Hall of Fame.

In Los Angeles, he helped double the Rams’ scoring output and mentored Todd Gurley to AP Offensive Player of the Year. By the time he arrived in Green Bay, Matt had built a résumé of resilience, trust-building, and offensive brilliance.
