Biography

Quarterbacking a Lifelong Football Journey

Jason Garrett’s football career began long before his Super Bowl wins and coaching accolades. After earning Ivy League Player of the Year honors as a quarterback at Princeton University—where he still holds the league’s career completion percentage record—Garrett went undrafted in 1989.

His tenacity led to a 14-year NFL playing career across five teams, including eight seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He played alongside Hall of Famers and helped secure three Super Bowl titles during the Cowboys’ 1990s dynasty.

From Player to Coach

In 2005, Garrett transitioned into coaching with the Miami Dolphins under Nick Saban, eventually rising through the ranks to become the Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Over ten seasons (2010–2019), Garrett amassed the second-most wins in franchise history, clinched three NFC East titles, and led one of the most storied teams in American sports through periods of both rebuilding and resurgence. He was named AP NFL Coach of the Year in 2016 following a 13–3 season led by breakout rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott.

Broadcasting and Studio Insights

In 2022, Garrett joined NBC Sports as a studio analyst for Football Night in America—the most-watched studio show in sports—and as a game analyst for Notre Dame Football and the USFL. His thoughtful insights and calm, strategic commentary have made him a respected voice in football media.
