A Baseball Icon: Standout Playing Career

Dusty’s 19-year playing career began in 1968, where he quickly established himself as a clutch hitter and a dynamic outfielder for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and Oakland Athletics. He was a two-time All-Star, a Gold Glove Award winner, and played a key role in the Dodgers’ 1981 World Series championship. His ability to deliver in high-pressure moments and his versatility in the outfield made him one of the most respected players of his era. Beyond his athletic achievements, Dusty’s impact on the game was so significant that he is even credited with being a part of the first “high five” in 1977 with Glenn Burke at Dodger Stadium.

A Hall of Fame Managerial Career

Following his playing career, Dusty made a seamless transition to managing, becoming one of the most successful skippers in MLB history. Over three decades, he managed five different franchises—the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, and Houston Astros—leading each to division titles and becoming the first manager in history to accomplish this feat. With these teams, he also earned three NL Manager of the Year awards (1993, 1997, 2000). His ability to connect with players, develop winning strategies, and foster a culture of resilience and teamwork set him apart as one of the greatest leaders in the game.

In 2002, Dusty led the San Francisco Giants to the World Series, proving his prowess as a championship-caliber manager. After stints with the Cubs, Reds, and Nationals, he was called upon to lead the Houston Astros in 2020 during a tumultuous time for the franchise. Just two years later, Dusty’s Astros won the 2022 World Series, making him the oldest manager ever to win a championship and solidifying his place among baseball’s all-time greats.

Recently, Dusty has been working as a special advisor to the San Fransico Giants and as the manager for Nicaragua in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Off the field, Dusty Baker is an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, and a passionate advocate for cancer research, having survived prostate cancer himself. He is also the owner of Baker Family Wines, a dedicated supporter of community and charitable initiatives, and a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Hall of Fame.
