Biography

Leadership Forged Under Pressure

Angela Gill Nelms’ journey is one of professional achievement, personal adversity, and extraordinary resilience.

At 29, Angela enrolled in the Georgia Institute of Technology’s biomedical engineering program as a single mother raising a daughter with special needs. She graduated with highest honors while serving as President of the Biomedical Engineering Society, participating on the Student Advisory Board, and founding a student awards program that remains part of the department today.

That accomplishment alone required discipline, courage, and endurance. But it was far from the only high-pressure environment Angela would be forced to navigate.

As a survivor of abuse, kidnapping, and a hostage situation, Angela has faced circumstances most people will never encounter. Those experiences did more than shape her story. They fundamentally shaped how she leads.

Angela understands what happens to communication, judgment, and trust when stress takes over. She also understands what it takes to continue moving when there is no obvious path forward.

Her leadership philosophy is built on that reality: resilience is not about pretending everything is fine. It is the ability to remain clear, accountable, and courageous when it is not.

Executive Leadership in Biotech

Throughout her career, Angela has built and scaled teams across biotechnology, healthcare, and technology.

She has served as Chief Operating Officer for multiple high-growth companies, including Florence Healthcare, RenovoRx, and Aetos Imaging. Across each organization, she led operations, strategy, product development, organizational growth, and culture during periods of rapid change.

Known for getting beyond presentations and into execution, Angela has built software, developed products, strengthened customer relationships, optimized organizations, and helped teams turn ambitious goals into measurable results.

Today, she serves as Managing Director of Biolocity, where she leads initiatives to accelerate the commercialization of early-stage medical technologies developed at Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Her work sits at the intersection of academia, medicine, entrepreneurship, investment, and industry. Angela helps researchers and innovators navigate the complex journey from breakthrough idea to viable startup, industry license, and real-world patient impact.

Professor and Engineering Leader

In addition to her executive work, Angela serves as a professor in Emory University’s Master’s in Biomedical Engineering and Innovation program.

She teaches graduate students advanced project management, commercialization strategy, leadership, innovation, and the global therapeutics market across the biotechnology and medical technology industries.

By combining academic instruction with decades of operating experience, Angela gives future leaders an honest look at what innovation requires after the idea is born: alignment, communication, accountability, sound decision-making, and relentless execution.

Angela remains deeply involved in the Georgia Tech community. She serves on the College of Engineering Advisory Board and the Georgia Tech Advisory Board, which advises the University President. She previously chaired the advisory board for the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering and has established scholarships to support future students.

Her contributions have been recognized with Georgia Tech’s Council of Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni honor and the Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award.

Building Badass Leaders

Angela is the Founder and CEO of The AGN Group, where she advises organizations and executives on leadership development, company culture, communication, personal branding, and organizational growth.

She is also the host of the Badass Leaders Podcast, where she engages CEOs, entrepreneurs, innovators, and industry experts in candid conversations about the challenges and triumphs of modern leadership.

Each episode goes beyond polished success stories to examine what it actually takes to build teams, manage conflict, scale organizations, and lead with authenticity.

Across her companies, classrooms, podcasts, and keynotes, Angela’s message remains consistent:

Be brave. Be accountable. Be willing to do the work.
