Jim likes to compare his journey of weight loss to his process of coaching youth football teams in his native Philadelphia. He didn’t magically drop 144 pounds from his initial 385-pound weight. Instead, he trusted his trainers and went into every day with a goal to reach.
In football, you look to win every play. Those small wins add up to the big picture, not the other way around. That approach is a valuable lesson anywhere, from weight loss to business.
Talk to Jim, and he boils it down to three basic steps in the process:
- Surrender to the process, instead of trying to impose your will on it or change it to your liking.
- Trust the trainers, who know what they’re doing and have your best interests in mind.
- Be the most disciplined. Others are trying, too. You just have to try harder.
You can’t control your talent, but you can control your attitude. When that attitude is right, you’ll be shocked by just how much you can accomplish. From his upbringing in Philadelphia to his background in sports, a competitive nature compelled Jim to the motivation he needed to win the TV competition and in life.
